Mizuho OSI Releases Software-Controlled Spine Surgery Table

The table offers complete access to the spine from cervical to sacrum, claims company.

Mizuho OSI, the American subsidiary of Mizuho Ikakogyo Co. Ltd. in Tokyo, Japan, has added the Proaxis to its line of spinal surgery table. The new table features software-controlled hinge technology designed to support the biomechanical aspects of spinal and imaging procedures. According to the company, the hinged table system supports instantaneous axis of rotation of the vertebrae with coordinated patient translation through a system of synchronized robotic movement.

“We think that the Proaxis spinal surgery table is a quantum leap forward in spine surgery patient positioning technology,” said Steve Lamb, President and chief operating officer of Mizuho OSI.

The table’s software-driven hinge technology is intended to allow for the desired degree of flexion and extension, providing direct visualization of intraoperative changes in vertebral alignment. This feature reportedly facilitates spinal canal decompressions and controlled closure for lumbar osteotomies as well as access for various minimally invasive procedures. The table’s open frame design converts to a radiolucent imaging top, providing a platform for supine and lateral procedures.

The table and radiolucent hinges are constructed from carbon fiber to facilitate imaging without interference at the surgical site. The Proaxis spinal surgery table offers complete access to the spine from cervical to sacrum and is also designed to support cervical management options.
